How they fit together

    Review

    Understand what is driving performance

  2. STAGE 2

    Improve

    Act on the findings

  3. STAGE 3

    Sustain

SERVICE 01

Suited to

  • Owner-operated hospitality venues and groups
  • Clubs reviewing departmental performance
  • Service businesses preparing for growth or restructure
  • New owners or managers who want a reliable baseline

Commercial challenges it addresses

  • Revenue is growing, but profit is not keeping pace.
  • You suspect labour or operating costs are too high, but cannot pinpoint where.
  • Management reports arrive late, or do not answer the questions you are actually asking.
  • Venues, sites or service lines perform differently and it is not clear why.

Typical work

  • Review of management reporting, profit and loss structure and operating information
  • Labour and workforce cost analysis, including rostering patterns and wage cost ratios
  • Operating expense review across the major cost categories

SERVICE 02

Financial Reporting & KPI Dashboards

Management reporting and dashboards that show owners and managers what is happening in the business — clearly, consistently and in time to act.

Suited to

  • Multi-site hospitality operators
  • Clubs with several trading departments
  • Growing businesses moving beyond spreadsheet reporting
  • Owners who want a weekly view, not just month-end

Commercial challenges it addresses

  • Month-end figures arrive too late to act on.
  • Reports are long, inconsistent or built differently each month.
  • Venues, departments or service lines cannot easily be compared.
  • Key numbers live in one person’s spreadsheet — and in their head.

Typical work

  • Defining the KPIs and reporting structure that suit your business
  • Designing management dashboards and performance scorecards
  • Revenue, profitability and labour cost reporting
  • Budget versus actual and variance reporting
  • Cash flow and trend reporting

  • A shared, reliable view of the numbers across the management team
SERVICE 03

Cost & Margin Optimisation

Analysis of the commercial drivers behind your margins — labour, pricing, product mix and operating costs — with practical ways to improve them.

Suited to

  • Hospitality venues facing rising food, beverage or wage costs
  • Labour-intensive service businesses
  • Businesses reviewing their pricing
  • Operators preparing budgets for the year ahead

Commercial challenges it addresses

  • Costs have risen faster than prices.
  • Labour cost as a share of revenue is creeping upward.
  • It is unclear which products, menu items or services actually make money.
  • Rosters are built around habit rather than trading patterns.

Typical work

  • Labour efficiency analysis — wage cost ratios, rostering against demand and revenue per labour hour
  • Gross margin analysis by product, category, department or service line
  • Pricing and service profitability review
  • Expense review and cost-driver identification
  • Resource allocation and productivity analysis

Example deliverables

  • Margin analysis
  • Labour efficiency review
  • Cost-driver assessment
  • Scenario model
  • Action plan

What it can help you achieve

  • Pricing, rostering and cost decisions based on evidence
  • A clearer understanding of the trade-offs behind each change
  • Improvement effort focused where it is likely to matter most
  • A model you can reuse as conditions change
SERVICE 04

Process Improvement & Automation

Streamlined workflows and sensible automation that reduce manual administration and give management time back.

Suited to

  • Businesses with heavy weekly or month-end reporting effort
  • Owner-managers carrying too much administration themselves
  • Teams relying on complex spreadsheets
  • Operators exploring practical uses for automation

Commercial challenges it addresses

  • Managers spend hours each week compiling reports.
  • Data is copied by hand between POS, payroll and accounting systems.
  • Processes rely on one person who knows how everything works.
  • Spreadsheets have become fragile, slow or error-prone.

Typical work

  • Mapping reporting and administrative workflows
  • Identifying repetitive, manual and duplicated tasks
  • Spreadsheet rebuilds and reporting improvements
  • Consolidating data across existing systems

Suited to

  • Businesses that have completed a review or reporting build
  • Owners who want an external sounding board
  • Clubs and groups reporting to boards or investors
  • Growing businesses without a dedicated finance manager

Commercial challenges it addresses

  • Reporting improvements fade once a project ends.
  • There is no regular forum to review performance and agree actions.
  • You would value commercial input but do not need a full-time finance manager.
  • Budgets and targets are not revisited during the year.

Typical work

  • Monthly management reporting preparation
  • KPI and performance reviews
  • Commercial performance meetings with owners or management
  • Dashboard maintenance and refinement
  • Trend and variance analysis

  • Maintained dashboards
  • Ad hoc analysis

What it can help you achieve

Common questions

Working with Outturn

Clear scope, clear deliverables and clear boundaries. If your question is not answered here, ask it on a discovery call.

Are you accountants?

No. Outturn provides management, operational and performance advisory. We are not a registered tax agent and do not prepare tax returns, statutory accounts or audits. We work alongside your accountant and bookkeeper, using the information they already produce.

How are engagements priced?

Project work, such as a performance review or reporting build, is scoped and quoted upfront. Ongoing advisory is agreed as a regular monthly fee. You will know the scope and cost before any work begins.

Do you work on site or remotely?

Both. Much of the analysis can be done remotely, and on-site time is useful for understanding operations first-hand. We work with businesses across Newcastle, the Hunter, the Central Coast, the Mid North Coast and regional NSW, and remotely elsewhere in Australia.

How do you handle confidential information?

Carefully. We request only the information needed, agree a secure way to share it, limit access to what the work requires and can work under a confidentiality agreement if you prefer.

Next step

Start with a 15-minute conversation.

Tell us about your business and what you would like to improve. If Outturn can help, we will suggest a sensible next step. If we cannot, we will say so.
